Verification methodology

What HouseGlow verification means

A "Verified listing" badge means two things and no more: the owner confirmed the email address on the account, and a HouseGlow administrator reviewed the listing before it went public. It is not a check of insurance, licensing, background screening, or work quality.

What HouseGlow checks

Three checks stand between a new listing and a public profile. Each is described below as it actually works, including whether a person or a script performs it and when.

A profile is publicly visible only while it is both approved and published. Either state can be withdrawn at any time.
Check How it is done When it happens
Owner email confirmed Automated. The person who created the account clicks a link sent to that address. An account that never confirms cannot sign in, and is deleted after 24 hours. At registration, before any listing can be created
Listing reviewed by a person Manual. A HouseGlow administrator opens the submitted profile and either approves it or returns it to draft with a reason. After the owner submits the listing, before it is public
Re-review after a material edit Automated trigger, manual review. Editing published profile content clears the approval and returns the listing to the queue. Every time published profile content changes

What HouseGlow does not check

Everything below is supplied by the business itself and published as the business stated it. HouseGlow does not request, inspect, or hold documentation for any of it.

  • Insurance. The "Insured (self-reported)" badge reflects a checkbox on the business's own profile. HouseGlow has not seen a policy, a certificate, a coverage amount, or an expiry date.
  • Licensing and registration numbers. A licence number on a profile was typed in by the business and is not checked against any state register.
  • Background checks on the people who will be in your home.
  • Whether cleaners are employees or subcontractors, and whether workers' compensation applies.
  • Quality of work, reliability, or how long a business has actually operated.
  • Prices and availability. No figure on this site is a quote.
  • Service-area accuracy. The ZIP codes on a profile are the ones the business declared that it serves.

What each badge means

Badges appear on public profiles and in search results. This is the full list, and the limit of each one.

Badge What it means What it does not mean
Verified listing The owner confirmed their email address, and an administrator reviewed this listing before publication. That insurance, licensing, background checks, or work quality were confirmed.
Insured (self-reported) The business stated on its own profile that it carries insurance. That HouseGlow has seen or checked a policy.
Claimed profile An owner account controls and edits this listing. Any check on the business beyond the listing review.
Sponsored The business paid for a featured placement, which lifts it in search results. Any difference in verification, quality, or suitability.

When verification can be withdrawn

Verification is a state, not a permanent award. It is cleared automatically whenever a business edits published profile content, and the listing returns to the review queue until an administrator approves it again. An administrator can also return a listing to draft at any time, which removes it from search results and from the public directory. There is no fixed expiry date and no periodic re-check on a schedule.

What to confirm yourself before hiring

These are the checks that matter most and that only you can make. Ask before the first visit, not after.

  • Ask for a certificate of insurance sent directly by the insurer or agent, and check the dates and the coverage amount.
  • Check whether your state or city licenses this work, and confirm any number with the issuing authority rather than with the business.
  • Ask who will actually be in your home, and what was checked about them, by whom, and when.
  • Get the scope and the price in writing before the first clean, and compare quotes on the same scope.
  • Agree cancellation, breakage, and re-clean terms in advance.

HouseGlow is a directory, not a cleaning company

HouseGlow does not perform cleaning, employ cleaners, set their prices, schedule their work, or take payment for their services. Every listed business is independent. A quote request is delivered to the business you selected, and the resulting agreement is between you and that business.
